Kenya 2019

Zoe traveled to Kenya with the 30/30 Project, which is a partnership between the Lewis family and Construction for Change, improving access to comprehensive healthcare by building 30 medical facilities worldwide. The 30/30 Project and CfC are partnering with local on-the-ground organizations to help build and eventually operate and staff the health facilities with qualifiedprofessional healthcare providers. These partners include Partners in Health, Optimize Health, The Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children and other non‐profit organizations that serve HIV+ women and their families.

The 30/30 Project’s mission is to bring access to quality, affordable healthcare to those who need it most. Our initiative intends to build 30 healthcare facilities over a five year period.

Impact: This facility will reduce the instances of maternal and infant mortality attributed to at home deliveries and lack of necessary facilities. The maternity ward will serve 6,000 patients annually.

Why Kenya? 6 out of every 10 women in Mogotio and Soin Ward deliver at home. Additionally, 1 in 42 women in Kenya die during childbirth. The cultural setback and lack of facilities contribute to the number of maternal and infant mortality in the area.
